The Winnipeg International Jewish Festival is Now Open for Submissions

The 2019 edition of the Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival runs from May 21 to June 7.

Any and all emerging student or established filmmakers are invited to submit their short film in any genre relating to Judaism, Jewish culture or history, or the Jewish experience. This Festival is an important part of Winnipeg’s cultural landscape, offering a wide variety of films celebrating Jewish and Israeli life, culture, history and cinema. More than 30 screenings will be shown including The Accountant of Auschwitz, Leona, A Fortunate Man, 93 Queen and many more soon to be announced.

REQUIREMENTS + GUIDELINES.

The goal of this competition is to encourage emerging or established filmmakers and students to submit a short film of their creation, addressing “The Jewish Experience.”

ELIGIBLE:

  • Open to former or current Manitoba filmmakers (established or emerging) of all backgrounds
  • Filmmakers must be 16 or over.
  • Films must be in English or have English subtitles
  • Films must be under 20 minutes total in length.

CONTENT

All films entered in the competition must depict a Jewish theme or express Jewish content:  For example, but not limited to, subjects can include Jewish life, culture, history, cuisine, politics, religion, the future of Judaism. Anything you want as long as it expresses a Jewish content.

FORMAT/SUBMISSION

We are accepting the following method of delivery: Vimeo.

All submissions must be downloadable. We therefore highly recommend creating a Vimeo account and uploading your submission there and enabling the download option. Please Submit in Vimeo but not in 4K.


FEE

There is no entrance fee to submit a film. Entrants can submit as many films as they like.  Entrants are asked to fill out an entry application which can be found below or attached. Please fill out a separate application for each film submitted.

SELECTION

Films will be judged by a jury of film professionals and enthusiasts. Winners will be acknowledged during this year’s Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival (May 21-June 7).

PRIZES

Cash prizes for winning films will be awarded

The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2019.
